Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a traditional style of hatha yoga, which was brought to the West and popularized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore (1915-2009). Originating from the teachings of an ancient text called the Yoga Korunta it was passed down to Pattabhi Jois at the beginning of 1927 by Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya (1888-1989).
In this type of practice breath and attention/focus are synchronized to the progressive movement through a pre-set series of postures, or asanas. The term 'Vinyasa' refers to the combination of these three components - the movement into the posture or asana, the breath (pranayama), and the focus or attention (drishti) of the practitioner.
We will be offering a modified primary series which is ideal for anyone looking to build a foundation in yoga practices. Classes are small and all participants will be receiving individualized attention and instruction.
