Jerry Jagt opened Painswick Motors in 1965. Painswick Motors began with two service bays and a full machine shop, which specialized in engine and automatic transmission rebuilding. A one-island gas bar was added in 1970, and the company was incorporated in 1977. Jerry’s son Ed joined the business part time in 1975 and then began his full time employment in 1979. Now a 3rd generation is working in the business; Kevin, Amanda and Nicole are all employed on a part-time basis. Four more service bays were added to the shop in 1981, with new alignment equipment and new diagnostic equipment. We are the best-equipped shop north of Toronto. We were the 3rd shop in Ontario to join Autopro in 1983, staying with them until 1994. We became a Petro Canada Dealer from 1984 to 1992. We joined Superior Tire as a franchise location from 1994 to 2000.

We are now Pro-Tech Tire & Auto. We have 6 well-equipped bays and are an Autopro Dealer again, rejoining in 2001. We are the second service center in Canada to own the Delphi Smart Service Center. We are completely “I-shop” compatible. As well as having state of the art Alignment System as well as A/C, scan tools and Information systems.
Pro-Tech Tire & Auto now employs 20 people and are a major participant in OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program), a supporting member of the Barrie & Area Auto Repair
Association. We assist both Simcoe County School Boards with their co-op programs. We sponsor several sports teams for kids in the Barrie area. We are still the best-equipped shop in Simcoe County. We were voted SSGM’s “Garage of the Year” for 2004.
